Does Medicare cover wound care?

Yes. Medicare covers debridement, advanced dressings, wound VAC therapy, and bioengineered skin substitutes when medically necessary. Diabetic shoes and inserts are also covered once per year for qualifying patients.

Most foot wounds heal without surgery when caught early and offloaded properly. Surgery is reserved for wounds that have not closed despite thorough conservative care, or for cases where underlying bone deformity or infection needs to be addressed.

Our wound program combines weekly debridement, advanced dressings, in-house imaging, custom offloading footwear, and surgical reconstruction when conservative care is not enough. How we diagnose

A wound-care visit starts with imaging and assessment — depth, infection signs, circulation status, and any underlying deformity creating pressure on the wound. On-site digital X-ray rules out underlying osteomyelitis. We document the wound at every visit so you and your primary care team can see progress objectively. For acute or rapidly deteriorating wounds, call us right away — we will see you the same day when possible.
